Semuc Champey (Guatemala)

Weather…

Semuc Champey is a natural monument located in the department of Alta Verapaz, near the town of Lanquín. The site features a 300-meter long natural limestone bridge that spans the Cahabón River, which flows beneath it. On top of this bridge lies a series of tiered, turquoise-colored pools interconnected by small waterfalls and fed by mountain runoff. The area is surrounded by dense subtropical rainforest, supporting a wide variety of bird species and tropical vegetation. Geologically, the formation was created by the gradual erosion of limestone and the deposit of minerals over millennia. It was officially designated a protected area in 1999 and is managed by the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP). Despite its remote location, it remains one of Guatemala's most significant destinations for ecotourism and geological study.
