Weather…

Chichicastenango, commonly known as Chichi, is a prominent town in the El Quiché department, situated at an elevation of 1,965 meters. It is globally recognized for its massive open-air market held every Thursday and Sunday, making it one of the largest indigenous markets in Central America. The town serves as a spiritual and cultural hub for the K'iche' Maya people, where ancient Mayan traditions blend with Catholicism in a practice known as religious syncretism. The Santo Tomás Church, built in 1540 atop the base of a pre-Columbian temple, remains a primary site for Mayan ceremonies and Catholic masses alike. Historically, it is the location where the Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, was discovered by Friar Francisco Ximénez in the early 1700s. Today, it remains a vital center for the preservation of Mayan languages and artisanal crafts.
