Big Rock Falls (Belize)

Weather…

Big Rock Falls is a majestic waterfall located within the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve in the Cayo District of Belize. The falls drop approximately 45 meters (150 feet) over massive granite rock formations into the Privassion Creek. Geologically, this area is part of the Vaca Plateau, one of the oldest geological regions in Central America, featuring a granite basement that predates the limestone found elsewhere in the country. The cascading water has carved a deep, expansive natural pool at its base, surrounded by huge boulders that are popular for sunbathing and diving. The surrounding ecosystem consists of high-altitude pine forests, providing a distinct contrast to the lowland tropical rainforests. Access to the site involves a steep descent via a series of wooden stairs and trails carved into the hillside. Its remote location within the protected reserve ensures the preservation of its pristine natural beauty and diverse mountain birdlife.
