Puerto Cortés (Honduras)

Weather…

Puerto Cortés is the most important seaport in Honduras and one of the most significant deep-water ports in all of Central America. Founded on May 14, 1524, by Gil González Dávila under the name Puerto de Caballos, it is located on the Caribbean coast in the department of Cortés. Due to its strategic location and the natural depth of its bay, the port can accommodate large container ships, making it the logistical heart of Honduran foreign trade. The port facilities are managed by the National Port Authority and feature modern terminals for containers, bulk cargo, and liquids. Beyond port logistics, the city is a major industrial center with textile factories and petrochemical plants. The economic importance of Puerto Cortés extends well beyond national borders, as it serves as a critical gateway for goods traveling to neighboring El Salvador and Nicaragua. The city combines historical colonial roots with a state-of-the-art industrial infrastructure that undergoes continuous expansion.
