📋 Practical info

🧭
Getting there
Situated just a few kilometers south of Tela, the gardens are highly accessible via a short taxi ride, bicycle, or even a determined walk from the coastal town. The entrance is well-marked along the main regional highway leading inland.
📅
Best season
The drier months from December to May are generally considered the best time to wander the extensive grounds without the interruption of heavy downpours. However, visiting during the wetter season often rewards guests with incredibly lush foliage and spirited blooms.
⛰️
Terrain & paths
The vast property features a diverse mix of flat, well-maintained gravel walkways in the primary arboretum and slightly more rugged, dirt trails stretching into the surrounding forest. Navigating the central areas is generally very straightforward and unchallenging.
🎒
What to bring
Comfortable walking shoes, breathable tropical attire, and reliable insect repellent are strictly necessary for enjoying the dense vegetative corridors. Bringing a refillable water bottle and a field guide for birds or plants will significantly enhance the experience.
🅿️
Parking
A dedicated, secure parking area is provided right next to the main visitor center and ticket office, making arrival exceptionally convenient. Space is typically ample, easily accommodating the moderate flow of tourists and large botanical tour buses.
⚠️
Safety
The managed garden areas are exceedingly safe for self-guided exploration, but venturing onto the deeper forest trails is best done during daylight hours. Always stay on marked paths to avoid disturbing delicate research plants and to prevent getting turned around.
⏱️
Time needed
A casual walk through the primary botanical collections can easily be accomplished in around two hours. True nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers, however, frequently spend over four hours traversing the extensive secondary paths and observing the wildlife.
