San Juan de Opoa is a municipality in Copán Department in western Honduras, located northwest of the departmental capital Santa Rosa de Copán. It is surrounded by a hilly landscape of pine and oak forests, coffee plantations, corn fields and small streams. Its economy traditionally relies on mid-altitude coffee, corn and bean farming, cattle ranching and forestry. The town center is built around a classic plaza, the parish church and several shops and workshops that serve the rural community. Worth noting are the historical traces from the early colonial era and the proximity to leading archaeological and natural attractions in western Honduras. San Juan de Opoa represents a calm mountain municipality where farming tradition, colonial continuity and Lenca heritage are tightly interwoven.
