La Campa is a culturally significant municipality in the Lempira Department of western Honduras, located just a few kilometers from the historic city of Gracias. Officially established in 1921, the settlement has a much older history as a traditional home of the Lenca people. Geographically, La Campa is situated in a rugged mountainous region defined by deep canyons and striking rock formations. The town is globally renowned for its traditional Lenca pottery, crafted by local women using centuries-old techniques without the use of a potter's wheel. An architectural gem of the town is the colonial church of San Matías, whose ornate facade makes it one of the most beautiful religious buildings in the region. In recent years, La Campa has also emerged as a top destination for adventure tourism, featuring one of the highest and longest zip-lines (canopy) in Central America, spanning a massive canyon. The blend of indigenous heritage, colonial architecture, and extreme natural landscapes makes La Campa a unique spot on the Honduran tourism map. The community proudly maintains its traditions, such as the 'Guancasco' ceremonies that symbolize peace between neighboring villages.
