Casa Blanca
The Casa Blanca archaeological center is located in the heart of the Chalchuapa region and is a significant testimony to the pre-Columbian settlement history of El Salvador. The site comprises six pyramids and several residential mounds, primarily used during the Late Preclassic and Classic periods between 500 BC and 900 AD. Casa Blanca was closely linked to the neighboring Tazumal site and formed part of an extensive ritual and economic network. A special highlight of the complex is the Indigo Museum, which explains the historical significance of this natural dye for the region and demonstrates traditional dyeing techniques. Visitors can admire the monumental structures here and learn in workshops how indigo is extracted from the jiquilite plant. The area is surrounded by lush vegetation and provides a serene atmosphere that invites exploration of ancient history. The preservation of the site is supported through international cooperation, making Casa Blanca an important location for education and research. The pyramids are made of adobe bricks and partly faced with volcanic stone.
