Monumento al Divino Salvador del Mundo (El Salvador)

Weather…

The Monument to the Divine Savior of the World (Monumento al Divino Salvador del Mundo) is one of the most iconic landmarks in San Salvador, located in the Plaza El Salvador del Mundo. Erected in 1942, it features a statue of Jesus Christ standing atop a terrestrial globe, which rests upon a tall square pedestal. The monument was designed by architect José María Villaseñor to commemorate the Eucharistic Congress. During the severe earthquake of 1986, the statue fell from its pedestal and sustained significant damage, but was later fully restored. The plaza serves as a symbolic 'point zero' for the city and is the central site for national celebrations, especially during the 'Fiestas Agostinas' honoring the country's patron saint. The monument represents the identity and Christian faith of the Salvadoran people. Following a comprehensive redesign of the plaza in 2010, the surroundings were enhanced with modern lighting systems and expanded green spaces.
