Cathedral of Santa Ana
The Cathedral of Santa Ana, officially known as the Cathedral of Our Lady Saint Anne, is a prominent Neo-Gothic landmark located in the city of Santa Ana, El Salvador. Construction of the current structure began on January 21, 1906, replacing a former colonial parish church that had been severely damaged by lightning in the late 19th century. The building process was lengthy, spanning over fifty years before its eventual consecration in February 1959. The cathedral features a Latin cross floor plan with three naves and is flanked by two imposing towers that dominate the local skyline. Its exterior is adorned with intricate sculptures and Gothic motifs, while the interior has high vaulted ceilings and ornate altars. In 1995, the cathedral was designated as a National Monument of El Salvador, reflecting its historical and architectural significance. Positioned prominently across from Parque Libertad, it serves as the spiritual heart of the diocese and a key destination for visitors exploring the western highlands.
