Cerro Verde
Cerro Verde is an extinct volcano in western El Salvador, part of the Los Volcanes National Park. Standing at an altitude of 2,030 meters above sea level, it features spectacular views of the neighboring Izalco and Santa Ana volcanoes, as well as Lake Coatepeque. Geologically, Cerro Verde has been inactive for approximately 25,000 years, which has allowed for the development of a dense cloud forest on its summit. This forest is home to an extraordinary diversity of orchids, bromeliads, and numerous bird species, including the rare quetzal. The park features well-maintained hiking trails that wind through the lush vegetation and provide educational information about the volcanic ecosystem. As one of the most important symbols of Salvadoran nature, Cerro Verde is for eco-tourists and hikers looking to experience the cool mountain air and the region's geological history.
