The Jalapa Valley (Valle de Jalapa) is located in the far north of Nicaragua, in the Nueva Segovia Department, near the border with Honduras. This valley is world-renowned for its first-class soils, which are specifically suited for the cultivation of high-quality tobacco used in the international cigar industry. Geographically, the valley is enclosed by the mountains of the Dipilto and Jalapa cordilleras, giving it a unique microclimate with moderate temperatures and high humidity. The valley is accessed via roads from Esteli or Ocotal, leading towards the border with Honduras. Travel by private 4x4 vehicle is often recommended for more remote parts of this agricultural valley.
