Jalapa is a city in the Nueva Segovia Department, located near the border with Honduras and known for its mild climate and fertile lands. Geographically, it is situated in a valley enclosed by the Dipilto and Jalapa mountain ranges at an altitude of approximately 600 to 700 meters. This location favors diverse agriculture, with Jalapa being considered one of Nicaragua's most significant tobacco-growing regions. In addition to tobacco, the region is a major producer of corn, which is celebrated annually during the famous "Feria del Maíz" (Corn Festival), one of the largest cultural events in the north of the country. The city's history is closely linked to the border conflicts of the 1980s, but today Jalapa is a peaceful center for cross-border trade. The surrounding nature provides dense pine and oak forests as well as numerous waterfalls, making the region attractive for ecotourism. The urban infrastructure has significantly improved in recent years to meet the increasing demands of agricultural trade and local tourism.
