Cusuco National Park (Honduras)

Weather…

Cusuco National Park is located in northwestern Honduras, west of San Pedro Sula, within the Merendón mountain range. Established in 1987, the park is globally recognized for its exceptional biodiversity and high degree of endemism. It encompasses mountain cloud forests at elevations between 1,500 and 2,242 meters above sea level. Cusuco is particularly famous for its rare amphibian species and jewel scarab beetles, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. International research teams frequently visit the park to study the effects of climate change on these sensitive ecosystems. The forest's dense canopy also provides habitat for the Resplendent Quetzal and various wild cats. Despite its ecological significance, the park faces threats from illegal logging and agricultural encroachment, necessitating ongoing conservation efforts. For visitors, the park provides rustic hiking trails and a chance to experience nearly untouched wilderness.
