Punta Izopo National Park is located on the northern coast of Honduras, east of the city of Tela, and is recognized as a Ramsar wetland of international importance. Established in 1992, the park covers an area of approximately 112 square kilometers. It primarily consists of extensive mangrove systems, lagoons, and rivers that form a labyrinth of waterways. Exploring the park is typically done via silent kayaking, which allows visitors to closely observe the rich wildlife, including various species of monkeys, reptiles, and a multitude of waterbirds. The park is named after Mount Izopo, a prominent feature in the otherwise flat coastal landscape. Punta Izopo is a critical habitat for preserving biodiversity on Honduras' Caribbean coast and serves as a nursery for numerous marine species. Its untouched nature provides a quiet and authentic experience away from the larger tourist crowds.
