💡 Tips

  • Located in a fertile valley, the weather is warm and sunny; dress in light, breathable clothing.
  • Cash is king here, as card machines and ATMs might be limited; withdraw money in larger cities beforehand.
  • The town moves at a slower pace; mornings are the best time to visit the local markets before it gets too hot.
  • While the famous 'Lluvia de Peces' legend belongs to the Yoro department, ask locals about their own rain stories.

Morazán is a municipality in Yoro Department in northern Honduras and is named after the Central American statesman Francisco Morazán. The town sits in a hilly transitional landscape between the Sula Valley and the mountains of Yoro, surrounded by tropical vegetation, small rivers and farmland on rolling slopes. Its economy is based on corn and bean farming, coffee on higher slopes and significant livestock and small-scale dairy processing. The town center is built around a classic plaza, a parish church and a compact commercial area near the market. Morazán is also a useful stopover along the road that links the Sula Valley to the lowlands of Olancho. The municipality represents very clearly the small-town, agriculture-driven world of northern rural Honduras.
