A meeting was held at the Fagaras Business Incubator to present the future development strategy for the region. The focus was on identifying funding opportunities and establishing concrete projects for the area's economic evolution.
Mountain rescuers have issued a warning for several valleys in the Fagaras Mountains affected by severe flash floods. Tourists are advised to avoid hiking in northern areas, particularly Valea Sâmbetei, Viștea Mare, and Arpașu Mare, due to safety risks.
The Făgăraș Fortress stands as one of the most formidable and well-preserved medieval strongholds in Transylvania. Originally established in 1310 on the site of an older wooden fortification, it was expanded and reinforced over the centuries to protect southern Transylvania from Ottoman incursions. During the 16th and 17th centuries, it evolved into a luxurious princely residence, becoming the favorite seat of Michael the Brave and later the Bethlen and Rákóczi families. The structure is unique for its massive curtain walls and a wide moat that remains filled with water, creating a memorable visual reflection of the stone bastions. However, the fortress also bears witness to a darker chapter of history, as it was used as a brutal political prison during the early communist era. Today, the fully restored castle houses a comprehensive history museum, showcasing medieval weaponry, folk art, and traditional crafts, making it a key cultural landmark for travelers exploring the Carpathian foothills.
