The Seven Ladders Canyon (Canionul Șapte Scări) is a memorable karst formation located in the Piatra Mare Mountains near Brașov. Carved into Jurassic limestone by the Seven Ladders Creek, the canyon features a series of seven sequential waterfalls from which it derives its name. The canyon spans a length of 160 meters and covers a vertical drop of 58 meters. It is navigated via a system of metal ladders and platforms that allow hikers to climb alongside the cascading water between towering rock walls. The tallest waterfall in the series drops from a height of 35 meters, creating a powerful sensory experience. Extensively renovated between 2013 and 2014, the site now meets modern safety standards while remaining a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Additionally, the area features one of the longest zip-line systems in Romania.

How difficult is the Seven Ladders Canyon?
It is moderately difficult. You have to climb near-vertical metal ladders right next to waterfalls. A head for heights and good footing are required.
Is there a zip-line available?
Yes, there is one of the longest zip-line systems in Romania, running from near the canyon entrance back towards Dâmbu Morii village.
What happens in case of bad weather?
In case of heavy rain or flood risk, the canyon is closed for safety reasons, as the metal ladders can become extremely slippery.
How long does the whole hike take?
From Dâmbu Morii parking, it takes about 1 hour to reach the canyon, 30 minutes to cross it, and 1 hour for the return path through the forest.
Is the canyon suitable for children?
Yes, for children aged 7-8 and up who are tall enough for the ladder rungs and aren't afraid of heights. Supervision is mandatory.
