Cerro Las Pavas is a significant hill located near the city of Cojutepeque in the Cuscatlán Department, about 34 kilometers east of the capital, San Salvador. Reaching an elevation of approximately 1,003 meters above sea level, the hill is primarily famous as a religious site, housing the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima at its peak. Every May, thousands of pilgrims visit the hill, making it a place of great cultural and spiritual importance in El Salvador. Geographically, Cerro Las Pavas features some of the most spectacular views of Lake Ilopango and the San Vicente volcano. The hill is mostly forested with pine and cypress trees, providing a refreshing and cool climate for visitors. In recent years, tourist infrastructure has been improved to encourage recreation and nature appreciation. Its strategic location also made it a vital observation point during historical conflicts in the region.
