Getting there
The majority of adventurous visitors take a rugged 4x4 vehicle journey from Panama City directly to the Carti port, followed immediately by a localized motorized boat transfer out to the various islands.
Best season
The absolute handy time to plan a visit is during the breezy dry season stretching from December to May, when trade winds are highly favorable, seas are generally calmer, and rainfall is minimal.
Terrain & paths
The archipelago is characterized by incredibly soft white sand beaches and completely flat island topography, while the surrounding crystal-clear marine environment features shallow, lively coral reefs.
What to bring
Essential packing items include plenty of cash in small local denominations, a valid original passport for entry checkpoints, reef-safe sunscreen, personal snorkeling gear, and basic essential toiletries.
Parking
Paid, supervised parking facilities are generally organized at the main Carti port terminal, where visitors can safely leave their rental vehicles for several days before embarking on the boat journey.
Safety
Advanced medical facilities are non-existent on the remote islands, so always bring a comprehensive personal first-aid kit, and be respectful of unpredictable ocean currents when swimming or snorkeling.
Time needed
