Amador Causeway (Panama)

Weather…

The Amador Causeway is a 6-kilometer long stretch of road that connects the mainland of Panama City to four islands in the Pacific Ocean: Naos, Perico, Culebra, and Flamenco. Construction of the causeway was completed in 1913 using rock and soil excavated during the building of the Panama Canal. Originally part of a US military base known as Fort Amador, it served as a defensive structure for the canal entrance until the territory was returned to Panama under the Torrijos-Carter Treaties. Today, the causeway is one of the most prominent recreational areas in the capital, offering panoramic views of the city skyline and the canal entrance. It houses the Biomuseo and numerous tourist facilities, while also serving as a breakwater for the Pacific entrance of the interoceanic waterway. The site remains a critical link between the urban center and the maritime environment of the Bay of Panama.
