The Uyuca Biological Reserve is a protected cloud forest area located about 15 kilometers east of Tegucigalpa. It encompasses approximately 237 hectares and reaches a maximum elevation of 2,000 meters above sea level. Managed by the Zamorano Pan-American Agricultural School, the reserve serves as a vital outdoor laboratory for forestry and ecological research. The vegetation is characterized by dense stands of oak and pine trees, with an immense variety of epiphytes such as orchids and bromeliads. Uyuca acts as a crucial watershed for the surrounding valleys and the university's extensive agricultural projects. Due to its isolated location, the reserve provides a sanctuary for numerous bird species and small mammals. Visitors enjoy the challenging uphill trek to the summit, which gives sweeping views of the Zamorano Valley during clear weather conditions.
