La Tigra National Park (Honduras)

Weather…

La Tigra National Park was the first protected area established in Honduras, receiving its national park status in 1980. Located northeast of the capital city, Tegucigalpa, the park spans approximately 238 square kilometers with altitudes ranging from 1,800 to 2,290 meters. It primarily consists of pristine cloud forest, which serves as a critical watershed, providing over 30% of the drinking water for the metropolitan area. The park's biodiversity is exceptional, hosting rare species such as the Resplendent Quetzal, pumas, and ocelots, alongside a vast array of orchids and giant ferns. Historically, the area was a center for silver mining by the Rosario Mining Company, and remnants of old tunnels and buildings are still visible today. A well-maintained network of eight hiking trails allows visitors to explore the dense vegetation and discover several scenic waterfalls.
