Comayagua Valley
The Comayagua Valley is one of Central America's most significant interior valleys, located in the geographical center of Honduras. Sitting at an average elevation of 600 meters, it is a vast, fertile plain surrounded by high mountain ranges. The warm climate and rich soils make it a powerhouse for agriculture, specializing in exports of vegetables and tropical fruits. The valley is home to the historic city of Comayagua, the country's former capital, renowned for its pristine Spanish colonial architecture. Today, it has become a global gateway with the opening of the Palmerola International Airport. History: Inhabited by the Lenca for over 3,000 years, the valley hosts the Yarumela archaeological site.
