Founded in 1548 by Dominican friars, the town serves as a principal center for the Poqomchi' Mayan people, who have preserved their linguistic and cultural heritage for centuries. The region is famous for its unique microclimate, often shrouded in a light mist known locally as "chipi-chipi," which sustains the lush cloud forests of the Sierra de Chamá. Geographically, Tactic occupies a fertile valley that is good for the cultivation of highland vegetables and ornamental plants.
