Zwinger (Germany)

Weather…

The Dresden Zwinger is one of Germany's most significant Baroque structures and a symbol of the cultural splendor of Saxony. Constructed between 1710 and 1728 under Elector Augustus the Strong, the complex originally served as an orangery and a festive setting for courtly celebrations. The collaborative effort of architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann and sculptor Balthasar Permoser transformed the Zwinger into a world-class masterpiece of art. Highlights include the Crown Gate (Kronentor) with its gilded dome and the Nymphenbad (Nymphs' Bath), regarded as one of Germany's finest Baroque fountains. Today, the Zwinger houses internationally renowned museums, including the Old Masters Picture Gallery and the Dresden Porcelain Collection. Despite being nearly destroyed in February 1945, the complex was meticulously reconstructed over several decades and now stands again as the cultural centerpiece of Dresden.
