Positioned directly on the banks of the Elbe River, Riesa is widely known across Germany as a hub of both sports and pasta manufacturing. The local pasta factory has been producing beloved Saxon noodles since 1914. Guests can visit the attached Noodle Center to watch the production process through glass walls and explore a museum dedicated to the history of pasta making. Along the river promenade stands a striking piece of modern art: the 25-meter-tall iron sculpture Elbquelle by artist Jörg Immendorff, celebrating the town's maritime ties. Riesa's historical roots are best experienced at the former monastery complex, where the preserved cloisters and serene gardens offer a quiet retreat from the urban environment. The large Sachsenarena makes the town a significant regional venue, regularly hosting international sports competitions and major concerts. With the popular Elbe Cycle Route running right through the town, Riesa is a well-rounded stopover for cyclists mixing industrial heritage with river landscape.
