The Blue Wonder, officially known as the Loschwitz Bridge, is one of Dresden's most striking landmarks, connecting the districts of Blasewitz and Loschwitz. Constructed between 1891 and 1893, the bridge is regarded as a masterpiece of late 19th-century engineering. It is a stiffened suspension bridge designed without any piers in the riverbed of the Elbe, which was a technical sensation at the time of its completion. The structure earned its popular nickname from its light blue coat of paint, which stood in contrast to the green hues typically used for steel bridges during that era. Despite the heavy air raids on Dresden in 1945, the bridge remained intact because courageous citizens prevented its demolition by retreating German forces. Today, it serves as a significant historical transport monument and a favorite subject for photographers, set against the scenic Elbe landscape. The steel construction features a span of 141.5 meters between its main shore pillars.
