Moritzburg Palace (Germany)

Weather…

Moritzburg Palace is a Baroque hunting lodge near Dresden that sits majestically on an artificial island in the middle of an expansive pond. Originally built in 1542 as a hunting lodge for Elector Moritz of Saxony, it was fundamentally redesigned between 1723 and 1733 under Augustus the Strong according to plans by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann. The palace is characterized by its four prominent round towers and yellow-and-white facade, which reflects picturesquely in the water. Inside, the palace houses one of the world's most significant collections of hunting trophies, including the legendary '66-point' antlers. Another highlight is the famous Feather Room, featuring wall coverings made from millions of bird feathers. The palace grounds also include the Rococo-style Little Pheasant Castle and Saxony's only lighthouse at the nearby harbor facility. Moritzburg gained international fame as the filming location for the fairy-tale movie 'Three Wishes for Cinderella,' making the palace a popular excursion destination, especially during the winter season.
