Hemingway House
Finca Vigía, now known as the Ernest Hemingway Museum, served as the primary residence of the world-renowned American author in Cuba for over twenty years. The estate is located in the San Francisco de Paula neighborhood, approximately 15 kilometers southeast of central Havana, and was originally constructed in 1886 by architect Miguel Pascual y Baguer. Hemingway purchased the property in 1940 and spent some of his most productive creative years there, writing major works such as "The Old Man and the Sea" and "Islands in the Stream." The museum preserves the house exactly as Hemingway left it in 1960, featuring his extensive library of over 9,000 volumes, personal correspondence, and numerous hunting trophies from his African safaris. On the grounds, visitors can also see his famous yacht, "Pilar," which he frequently used for deep-sea fishing expeditions. Perched on a hill, Finca Vigía gives sweeping views of the Cuban capital and the surrounding lush landscape. Since its inauguration as a national museum in 1962, the estate has remained a significant cultural link between Cuba and the United States. Today, it stands as one of the most visited cultural landmarks on the island, offering an intimate glimpse into the life of one of the 20th century's greatest literary figures.
