Trio Village is a relatively young and dynamically growing settlement located in the northern part of the Toledo District in southern Belize. Established in the 1980s, the village has since developed into a vital agricultural community for the region. Geographically, Trio is situated in the foothills of the Maya Mountains, providing the area with a humid climate and fertile soils. The population is a diverse mix of Mopan Maya, Q'eqchi' Maya, and Mestizos, many of whom have migrated from other parts of the country or neighboring Guatemala. The local economy is heavily influenced by the banana industry, as the village is surrounded by large-scale commercial plantations that provide employment for many residents. Additionally, small-scale farmers in the community cultivate cacao and citrus fruits for export. The village's isolation has been reduced in recent years through improved access roads connecting Trio to the Southern Highway. Despite the industrial agriculture nearby, the community preserves many traditional Maya customs and ways of life. Infrastructure includes a primary school and a health clinic serving the growing population of approximately 1,000 residents. The village symbolizes the agricultural expansion and social shifts in rural Belize.
