Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary (Belize)

Weather…

Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary is a true paradise for ornithologists and nature lovers. The sanctuary consists of an extensive network of lagoons, swamps, and waterways that attract an incredible diversity of waterbirds. It is especially famous as a nesting site for the giant Jabiru Stork, the largest flying bird in the Western Hemisphere. During the dry season, the waters recede, concentrating the birdlife and allowing for spectacular sightings. The adjacent village of Crooked Tree, one of Belize's oldest settlements, is known for its hospitality and cashew production. A boat tour through the lagoon is the best way to see crocodiles, turtles, and hundreds of bird species in their natural environment.
