Fakaifou is a prominent village located in the northern part of Fongafale on Funafuti Atoll, the capital of Tuvalu. Originally established as a settlement for people migrating from the outer islands, Fakaifou has grown into one of the most densely populated areas in the country. Situated north of Alapi village, it serves as a melting pot for various Tuvaluan dialects and traditions, giving it a unique cultural diversity. The infrastructure is characterized by narrow lanes and intensive land use on the limited available ground. Fakaifou is well-known for its lively atmosphere and its central role in sporting and cultural events within Funafuti. Due to its extreme proximity to the sea and low elevation, the village is heavily impacted by flooding during spring tides, known as 'King Tides.' The Fakaifou community is highly organized and plays a key role in the local politics of the Funafuti Town Council. The village houses several church centers and is a vital hub for social exchange within the capital's expanding urban population.
