Reach Falls (Jamaica)

Weather…

Reach Falls is located in the parish of Portland, Jamaica, and is widely regarded as one of the island's most pristine and secluded natural attractions within the John Crow Mountains. The falls were first discovered by runaway slaves who sought refuge in the dense vegetation to evade capture during the colonial era. The site features a spectacular tiered waterfall cascading over limestone shelves into translucent emerald pools of mountain water. It is a biodiversity hotspot, home to over 23 species of ferns and various endemic wildlife, including the yellow-billed parrot. The falls gained international recognition as a filming location for major movies, such as the 1988 hit 'Cocktail' and the 1963 adaptation of 'Lord of the Flies'. Adventurous visitors can swim through an underwater tunnel leading to a hidden cavern and hike along the Driver’s River to discover smaller, untouched basins. Its remote location has helped preserve the ecological integrity and tranquil atmosphere of the montane rainforest ecosystem.
