Pelican Bar (Jamaica)

Weather…

Floyd's Pelican Bar is widely regarded as one of the most unique and remote watering holes in the world, perched on a sandbar about three-quarters of a mile off the coast of Treasure Beach, Jamaica. It was constructed in 2001 by a local fisherman named Floyd Forbes, who initially intended for it to be a private sanctuary where he and his fellow fishermen could rest after a day at sea. The structure is built entirely from driftwood, palm fronds, and other found materials, giving it the appearance of a rustic, floating nest in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. Accessible only by a short boat ride, the bar has an adventurous and exclusive atmosphere that attracts visitors from around the globe. In 2004, Hurricane Ivan nearly destroyed the bar, but it was subsequently rebuilt through the collective efforts of the local community and loyal international patrons. Guests can wade in the shallow turquoise waters surrounding the sandbar, enjoy freshly caught seafood, or carve their initials into the bar's wooden planks. The Pelican Bar provides an unparalleled 360-degree ocean view and has become a symbol of authentic Jamaican 'chill' culture, distinct from the island's northern resort hubs.
