Port Antonio is the capital of Portland parish on the northeast coast of Jamaica. The town is known for its lush vegetation, natural beauty, and a more relaxed, less commercialized atmosphere than other Jamaican resorts. Its development as a tourist destination began in the late 19th century with the boom of the banana export trade, when entrepreneur Lorenzo Dow Baker brought wealthy travelers. The town is positioned between two natural harbours, separated by the Titchfield Peninsula. Famous attractions in the area include the mystical Blue Lagoon, whose waters change color from deep sapphire to pale turquoise, as well as the idyllic Frenchman's Cove and San San beaches. The late actor Errol Flynn was a famous resident, describing the town as 'more beautiful than any woman I have ever known' and popularizing rafting on the nearby Rio Grande river.
