Koblenz is one of Germany's oldest cities, beautifully situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, known as the world-famous Deutsches Eck. Founded by the Romans over 2,000 years ago as 'Castellum apud Confluentes,' the city has a diverse history as a princely residence and a military stronghold. A prominent landmark is the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which towers over the city and is now linked to the Rhine riverbank by a scenic cable car. Koblenz is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Upper Middle Rhine Valley and attracts visitors with its historic old town featuring narrow alleys, churches, and fountains. Throughout the centuries, the city served as a vital trading post and administrative center, evidenced by grand structures like the Electoral Palace. In 2011, Koblenz hosted the Federal Horticultural Show, which led to an extensive modernization of the Rhine embankments. Today, the city is a significant economic center and the gateway to the renowned wine regions of the Rhine and Moselle.
