Cinquera is an emblematic municipality in the Cabañas Department, today considered a prime example of ecological renewal and historical memory. During the Salvadoran Civil War, the town was almost completely destroyed, and the population was displaced, turning Cinquera into a ghost town. Following the 1992 peace accords, residents returned and decided to protect the surrounding forests, which had once served as hideouts, as an ecological park. Today, the Cinquera Ecological Park is an important conservation center for local flora and fauna, as well as a destination for ecotourism. The town itself is a living museum of resistance, with murals and monuments commemorating the past. The economy has shifted from pure agriculture toward sustainable tourism and community projects. Geographically, the region has a hilly landscape with numerous waterfalls and hiking trails leading through regenerated secondary forest. Cinquera is an inspiring example of how a community can build a green and peaceful future from the ruins of war.
