El Paisnal is a municipality in the northern part of the San Salvador Department, playing a central role in the country's recent history. Geographically, it is located in the alluvial plain of the Lempa River, providing the region with a fertile base for agriculture, particularly for the cultivation of sugarcane and corn. The town gained international recognition as the birthplace of Father Rutilio Grande, a Jesuit priest and martyr whose assassination in 1977 is considered one of the triggers of the Salvadoran Civil War.
