Bonao Valley (Dominican Republic)

Weather…

The Bonao Valley is a fertile intramontane plain in the central Dominican Republic, set between the Cordillera Central and the Sierra de Yamasá. It lies at an elevation of approximately 170 to 200 meters above sea level and is known for its humid tropical climate with abundant rainfall. These conditions make the valley one of the most productive rice-growing regions in the country. Geologically, the valley is characterized by Quaternary alluvial deposits brought down by the Yuna and Masipedro rivers. Bonao, the capital of Monseñor Nouel province, is the bustling heart of the region. Besides agriculture, the area is noted for mining (ferronickel) and its rich cultural traditions, particularly the Bonao Carnival. Its strategic location on the Duarte Highway makes it a key link between Santo Domingo and the Cibao Valley.
