Pimentel is a municipality in the Duarte province of the Dominican Republic, located in the fertile Cibao Valley. Originally known as Barbero, it was later renamed in honor of General Pedro Antonio Pimentel, a hero of the Dominican Restoration War. The town's growth was historically catalyzed by the arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century, which established Pimentel as a major transportation hub for agricultural goods. Today, the area is a leading producer of rice and cocoa, taking full advantage of the rich alluvial soils of the valley. The flat terrain of the region is good for large-scale farming, while the subtropical climate ensures a steady supply of water for irrigation. Pimentel maintains a strong community identity rooted in its railway heritage and agricultural traditions, functioning as an important commercial and social center for the eastern Cibao region.
