San Ignacio de Sabaneta is the capital of the Santiago Rodríguez province in northern Dominican Republic. The town is historically significant as the site where the Sabaneta Uprising began in 1863, triggering the Restoration War against Spain. Today, Sabaneta is the center of Dominican dairy production and is often referred to as the 'Capital of Milk.' The economy is strongly agricultural, focusing on livestock farming, tobacco cultivation, and the production of casabe (a traditional cassava flatbread). Geographically, the town is located in a fertile valley on the edge of the Cordillera Central. Cultural life is rich in traditions, with annual patronal festivals and agricultural fairs being the highlights. The town also serves as an important commercial hub for the surrounding mountain villages.
