Restauración is a significant municipality in the Dajabón province, located in the mountainous northwest of the Dominican Republic. Its name commemorates the Dominican Restoration War, through which independence from Spain was regained. Due to its high altitude in the Cordillera Central, the town enjoys a much milder and wetter climate than coastal areas. The economy is based on forestry and agriculture, particularly the cultivation of coffee and vegetables. The surroundings are characterized by dense pine forests and numerous watercourses, giving the region an alpine feel. As a border town, Restauración plays an important role in national security and trade with neighboring Haiti. The population is known for its hospitality and its strong connection to nature and local traditions.
