Villa Vásquez is a town located in the Monte Cristi province in the northwest of the Dominican Republic. Originally called Santa Ana, it was later renamed in honor of Dominican President Horacio Vásquez. The region is defined by a semi-arid climate, which has necessitated the development of extensive irrigation systems to support its vast rice plantations. Consequently, Villa Vásquez has become one of the most important rice-producing centers in the northwest, housing multiple mills that process the harvest for national distribution. Geographically, its proximity to the northern coast and the Haitian border gives it strategic significance for regional trade and logistics. The surrounding landscape features dry forests and expansive plains, contrasting sharply with the lush tropical areas found elsewhere on the island. The town serves as a bustling commercial hub, deeply integrated into the country's agricultural backbone.
