Alamikamba (often spelled Almicamba) is a significant river port town in northeastern Nicaragua, serving as the administrative head of the Prinzapolka municipality within the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACN). Situated on the banks of the mighty Prinzapolka River, it was historically a central hub for the extraction and transport of mahogany timber and bananas during the economic boom of the early 20th century. Geographically, the region is characterized by vast rainforests, wetlands, and a dense network of waterways that remain the primary mode of transport for local Miskito and Mayangna communities. Today, Alamikamba's economy relies on fishing, subsistence farming, and regional trade in forest products. Due to its isolated location, the town is accessible mainly by boat or via a rugged unpaved road, preserving its rustic frontier character. Culturally, the town is a melting pot of indigenous traditions, where oral history and a deep connection to the river shape the daily life of its inhabitants.
