Tryall Great House, perched on a scenic ridge in Hanover, is a magnificent example of 19th-century Jamaican Georgian architecture. The original estate dates back to the early 18th century but was largely destroyed during the 1831 slave rebellion. The current Great House was reconstructed in 1834 and retains its stately character with wide verandas, mahogany floors, and massive stone walls. A standout historical feature of the property is the 18th-century water wheel, which has a diameter of 9 meters and remains one of the best-preserved pieces of industrial machinery in Jamaica. Historically, Tryall was a prosperous sugar and coconut plantation before being converted into one of the world's most exclusive luxury resorts and golf clubs in the 1950s. The site has a unique juxtaposition of colonial history, illustrated by the old cannons from Fort Tryall near the entrance, and modern high-end tourism, all while providing panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.
