Negril Lighthouse
The Negril Lighthouse is an iconic landmark standing at the extreme western tip of Jamaica, marking the point where the island meets the setting sun. Completed in 1894 by the French firm Bubbler & Bernard, this 66-foot (20-meter) white concrete tower has guided maritime traffic around the island's western cliffs for over 130 years. Built on a massive limestone foundation with deep water tanks to ensure stability during hurricanes, it was one of the first concrete lighthouses in the world. Visitors can climb the 103 steps to the top to enjoy unparalleled 360-degree views of the Seven Mile Beach and the turquoise Caribbean Sea. Originally powered by kerosene, the light was later converted to electricity and now operates entirely on solar energy. Set against the bohemian and rugged backdrop of Negril's West End, the lighthouse remains a symbol of safety and rustic beauty, making it a favorite spot for travelers to witness the island's most spectacular sunsets.
