Best season
Rocklands Bird Sanctuary is open year-round, but the winter months of December to April offer the best birdwatching with many exotic species present. Hand-feeding is especially popular during this time.
Best time of day
Birds are active throughout the day, but the best time for hand-feeding is early morning when they are hungry. Late afternoon also brings many birds to the feeding stations.
Etiquette
Feed the birds only with the provided food and do not touch them, even if they appear very tame. Keep dogs away as they could scare the birds.
What to bring
A camera with a telephoto lens is convenient for capturing close-up shots of the colorful birds. Sun protection and a hat are recommended as it gets hot quickly in the sun.
Getting there
The sanctuary is about 15 minutes from Montego Bay on the road to Reading. It is easily reached by taxi or rental car, with free parking available.
What to expect
The birds here are very accustomed to humans and often come right up to you. Still, you may need a little patience until the shyer species appear. Let yourself be surprised!
