Fort Picoulet (Haiti)

Weather…

Fort Picoulet is a historical coastal fortress located on the northern shore of Haiti, west of the city of Cap-Haïtien. Originally constructed by the French in the 18th century, the fort was designed to protect the entrance to the strategic harbor of Le Cap from naval invasions. Its dramatic position, built directly into the rugged shoreline cliffs, provided an unparalleled vantage point over the Atlantic Ocean. During the Haitian Revolution, the fort was a key defensive position used by Haitian forces to secure their territory against foreign re-occupation. The structure features thick stone walls, casemates, and circular gun platforms that once held heavy artillery. Although the site has suffered from natural erosion and neglect, it remains an impressive example of colonial military engineering. Today, Fort Picoulet is visited for its historical significance and the spectacular views it has of the crashing waves and the northern cape.
