Weather…

The Fort de la Crête-à-Pierrot is a historic fortification near Petite-Rivière-de-l'Artibonite, globally renowned for hosting one of the most decisive battles of the Haitian Revolution. In March 1802, approximately 1,300 Haitian soldiers, led by Jean-Jacques Dessalines, defended the fort against a French army of about 12,000 men under General Leclerc. The battle is celebrated for the heroic resistance of the Haitians, who, despite being severely outnumbered, slowed the French advance and provided a crucial moral boost to the independence movement. The fort is strategically located at a bend in the Artibonite River, offering an excellent defensive position. Architecturally, it consisted of earthworks and palisades, later reinforced by more permanent structures. Dessalines' famous oath to defend the fort to the last man or die during the breakout is a central moment in Haitian national history. Today, the site stands as a national monument, commemorating the strategic brilliance and unwavering commitment to freedom of the Haitian revolutionaries.
